Tree Care Guide
How to Set Up and Care for Your Real Christmas Tree
At Gold Coast Christmas Trees, our trees are freshly harvested and carefully selected to ensure the best quality and longevity. Following these simple steps will help your tree remain fresh, stable, and looking beautiful throughout the Christmas season.
Trim the Base
Before placing your tree in the stand, trim approximately 1 cm from the base of the trunk. This removes the dried sap layer that forms after cutting and allows the tree to absorb water properly.
Once trimmed, place the tree into water as soon as possible.
Attach the Stand While the Tree is Lying Down
For easier installation, we recommend attaching the stand while the tree is lying down on the ground.
Many of our customers use the Cinco Christmas tree stand, which provides excellent stability and a generous water reservoir.
Keep the Net On While Moving the Tree Inside
If your tree arrives wrapped in netting, leave the net on while moving the tree indoors. This helps:
- Protect branches
- Make the tree easier to handle
- Prevent damage to decorations or furniture
Once inside, position the tree in its final location. Avoid placing the tree directly beside:
- Air-conditioning vents
- Strong direct sunlight
Fill the Stand with Water
Once the tree is upright in the stand, fill the reservoir with water before removing the net. A fresh Christmas tree can drink a surprising amount of water, particularly during the first few days.
Always ensure the base of the trunk remains submerged in water.
We strongly recommend adding our Christmas Tree Nutrients, which can help maintain hydration and freshness and reduce needle drop.
Remove the Net and Let the Tree Settle
After the stand is filled with water, carefully remove the netting. Allow the branches time to settle and naturally open.
You can then rotate the tree to achieve the best viewing angle in the room.
Time to Decorate
Once the tree has settled, it’s time to decorate.
Many Gold Coast Christmas Treescustomers enjoy using our premium decorative bows, which provide a polished and elegant look.
Daily Care
To keep your tree fresh:
- Check the water level daily
- Top up the reservoir when required
- Keep the tree away from strong heat sources
Real Christmas trees can absorb 1–2 litres of water per day in warm conditions.
